  Its a brilliant design and I think its longevity is unknown. the design is almost the best (a cone) but looks better. I hope the construction materials have satifactory strength. It gave a lot of people work and wages and they could have been paid more but there would have been fewer people employed. You win some, you lose some.   When i checked the richest cities by rankings (calculated by total GDP)Dubai is not even in top 80(my city dhaka is above dubai), and UAE is not even among the top 20 rankings of (GDP per capita at PPP rates). Then why is Dubai? Why cant Los Angeles or Paris make anything close to this????

  I find it interesting and frankly boring that people get wrapped up in this structure. The culture of Dubai has no discipline that is required to come up with such a structure. Designed by Chicago Architecture firms, (as are most buildings in Dubai) Dubai's prince is simply using American technology and know how, exploiting workers to build these empty buildings, and hoping people come to visit. No way. The human rights violations in Dubai run deep and this city cares nothing for the environment. Big deal, a prince had some money threw at a project, hired American architects and engineers and built himslelf a bunch of empty buildings. Dubai is no place that is even on my radar. This city is smaller than my current city of Jacksonville FL. A cool building in an abhorent part of the world. Thanks, but no thanks.

  I always admired the hard work of the government lead by the prince of Dubai. They have helped create millions of jobs from all over the world on these construction zones.   this is the most amazing structure that i have ever seen and it is not even completed, i am looking forward to the completion of the Burj Dubai, so that i can at least see it on the internet. i will not be able to afford to see it, other than this way but i can always dream that i would be dancing in the Armani ballroom and looking over all the architectural achievements of Dubia from the observation deck. i was "blown away" so to speak by how it is designed to have the airflow go up the building in a spiral, i would assume even adding to the strength of the structure as opposed to creating force against it. pure genius. to all of you who are involved in this monumental project, my sincere congratulations.

  While i can appreciate the beauty and feat of engineering this structure,the more i see of dubai, i see a fake facade of fancy buildings but a city with no real beauty. What happens when the money dries up and age takes it toll on this city, will it really stand the test? At the end of the day do we need 1km high buildings to marvel at when there are people starving, and dying from disease just from lack of water. I think helping something like that would me a more remarkable feat.

  I viewed a television broadcast in Canada about the tower and its construction/engineering workforce. It gets so hot in the daytime the workers have to take the mid day (noon) hours off, but then will resume work even all night as the concrete will only set properly during the cooler night hours. They continually moved the workers lunch room to higher and floors so the workers dont have to go all the way down its many floors! Just incredible worker management and building engineering. Really enjoyed viewing the Dubai hospitality to the workers!

  extraordinary architectural feat, I have been following the construction since day one now it has risen to level 106 so far, but as I watch it rise I notice it is very narrow, (I hope that the engineers and architects have it figured out), but I was wondering that the base of this building is supporting a HUGE amount of deadload weight(concrete and prime materials)it is reinforce concrete and at some point concrete will crack due to pressure., at certain height the building will begin with a steel skeleton frame,wait for the live load(people,furniture ,etc. will give it a enormous amount of extra weight I just hope this marvelous Skyscraper does not sink into the sand and remains structurally sound. This building is a marvel, a dream come true! But let us trust the design and ingenuity of American architects SOM, God willing this will be another Historic sucess of man in the 21st century.

  This building is a technological and engineering marvel. I have to had it to the UAE, when they go for it, they really go for it. Whether this building remains the worlds tallest or not...it will definitely be one of the most beautiful!!!!

  this building is extraordinary it is still nice to know that the world trust a***AMERICAN*** design firm (SOM,Chicago skyscraper experts) no more to say ... and to our british friend the reason its more difficult to build this type of super skyscraper in the USA or England or many other countries is the cost of labor and materials is aprox. 50%to 60% higher,its a big investment to any country

  The construction is made so that the height can be changed during the construction time to a limit. We can excpect something around 700 - 1000 meters. It will me awesome anyhow.   Final judgement will have to wait, of course, but the concept is phenomenal. I was struck by notions of the Empire State Building in its day and Wright's plan for a mile-high skyscraper. It has more character and awe than most record-height-aspiring structures.
